ASBI Business Profile
Ameriana Bancorp is a bank holding company for Ameriana Bank (the Bank). The Bank has two wholly owned subsidiaries, Ameriana Insurance Agency (AIA) and Ameriana Financial Services, Inc. (AFS). AIA provides insurance sales from offices in New Castle, Greenfield and Avon, Indiana. AFS operates a brokerage facility in conjunction with LPL Financial. The Bank offers a range of consumer and commercial banking services, including accepting deposits; originating commercial, mortgage, consumer and construction loans, and through its subsidiaries, providing investment and brokerage services and insurance services. The Bank’s primary sources of income are interest and fees on loans and interest on investments. The Bank also invests in various federal and government agency obligations and other investment securities, including mortgage-backed, municipal and equity securities. The principal sources of funds for the Bank’s lending activities include deposits received from the general public, funds borrowed from the federal home loan bank (FHLB) of Indianapolis, principal amortization and prepayment of loans. It offers customers in its market area time deposits with terms from three months to seven years, interest-bearing and noninterest-bearing checking accounts, savings accounts and money market accounts. It conduct business through its New Castle, Indiana, and 12 branch offices located in New Castle, Middletown, Knightstown, Morristown, Greenfield, Anderson, Avon, McCordsville, Fishers, Carmel, Westfield and New Palestine, Indiana, and through our loan production office in Carmel, Indiana. The principal lending activity of the Bank has been the origination of conventional first mortgage loans secured by residential property and commercial real estate, and commercial loans and consumer loans. The residential mortgage loans have been predominantly secured by single-family homes and have included construction loans. The Bank may originate or purchase whole loans or loan participations secured by real estate located in any part of the United States. The Bank also originates hybrid mortgage loans. The Bank makes construction/permanent loans to borrowers to build one-to four-family owner-occupied residences with terms of up to 30 years. One-to four-family residential construction loans were $2.2 million of the construction loan portfolio, as of December 31, 2011. Additionally, as of December 31, 2011, the Bank held loans on $2.2 million of residential land and building lots, which represented 12.2% of the construction loan portfolio.
