Ranbaxy Laboratories manufactures and markets pharmaceutical dosage forms (for human health care), animal health care products, bulk drugs and intermediates, diagnostics, laboratory chemicals and reagents. It is the largest exporter of bulk drugs and pharmaceutical dosage forms in India. Incorporated in 1961, the company went public in 1973.
The company has manufacturing operations in 8 countries with a ground presence in 49 countries, and its products are available in over 125 countries. Ranbaxy made an acquisition of RPG Aventis, France which has since been renamed as Ranbaxy Pharmacie Generiques SAS. Laboratorios Ranbaxy was incorporated in Barcelona, Spain as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ranbaxy Netherlands. Ranbaxy Australia was set up in Sydney as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ranbaxy Netherlands. ZAO Ranbaxy was incorporated in Moscow, Russia as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ranbaxy Netherlands. Ranbaxy has Thembalami Pharmaceuticals as its JV. The Group acquired Terapia SA, Ranbaxy Belgium NV, Mundogen Pharma SA, Substantial assets of Allen SpA and Be-Tabs Pharmaceuticals (Pty) Limited.
The company has decided to lay greater thrust in the areas of Novel Drug Delivery Systems and New Drug Discovery Research, enhance emphasis on Custom Synthesis to draw greater leverage on built-in chemical & clinical research.
