Hero Honda Motors was formed in 1983 when Hero Group of India and Honda Motor Company of Japan inked their joint venture. The company is a pioneer in India`s motorcycle industry. Hero Honda has built two manufacturing facilities in Haryana, at Dharuhera and Gurgaon, with a combined production capacity of 3.9 million two wheelers annually. The vehicles are sold and serviced through a network of over 2400 customer touch points, consisting of a mix of dealers, service centres and stockists across rural and urban India,
During 2005-06 the company made its debut in the scooter market with a 100 cc offering aimed at women commuters and homemakers and also launched new engine platforms in 125cc and 150 cc categories. In June 2006, the company launched India`s first fuelinjection two wheeler - Glamour Fl. The bikes are exported to countries Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Columbia, Burundi and Nepal.
The company in April 2007 launched a face-lift variant of its 150 cc motorcycle `Achiever` priced between a range of Rs 52,650 to Rs 54,950 (ex-showroom Delhi).
The company has a host of joint ventures which looks after basic inhouse requirement of technology and components. Munjal Showa was formed in technical and financial collaboration with Showa Corporation of Japan to, design, develop and manufacture front forks, shock absorbers, struts and gas struts. Sunbeam Auto is a piston manufacturing facility in technical collaboration with Honda Foundry Company of Japan. Munjal Auto Industries a joint venture with the state-owned Gujarat Industrial Investment Corporation to cater to the needs of the overseas market.
