BUSINESS PROFILE : Dalmia Cement Limited (DCL), a Sanjay Dalmia group company, is amongst the oldest in the sector. Incorporated in 1951, it manufactures cement, sugar and dead burnt magnesite. The company has also diversified into manufacture of colour television sets, radios, tape recorders, multi layer ceramic chip capacitors and allied instruments. It trades in iron ore as well. Its plants are located at Dalmiapuram, Salem and Muppandal in Tamil Nadu, Ramgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Bangalore in Karnataka and Ballabhgarh in Haryana. The cement division with a 3.5 million tonne plant in Tamil Nadu contributes around 65% of the sales. DCL also makes special cements. These basically find applications in airstrips, railway sleepers and oil wells. DCL`s manufacturing process is backed by in house research and development. It has developed oil well cement, class `G` and also obtained rights to use the API (American Petroleum Institute) monogram on its oil well cement.
